KUALA LUMPUR:
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar today assured a thorough investigation will be carried out on the death threat and bullet which were mailed to Maria Chin Abdullah, although he expressed disappointment that she had handled the bullet.

Khalid said now that the Bersih 2.0 chairperson has lodged a police report, they would act on it, adding that police would investigate all reports lodged and not just “sit idly”.

He, however, said in future, if she receives another threat (in the form of a note or bullet), she should not touch it, or display it to others.

“We want to lift fingerprints off the bullet and now we will only get her’s. She could have placed it there herself, we never know.

“She should have just left it there and allowed us to investigate. Don’t tamper with the evidence,” he said in Bukit Aman today.

Maria came back home on Monday, after being released from solitary confinement, to find a bullet among her mail, together with a death threat.

The threatening note and .45mm bullet were believed to have been hand-delivered to her home on Nov 18, on the eve of the Bersih 5 rally and on the same day she was arrested and detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, or Sosma.

The threatening note, the third in recent months read: “Last Warning if not R.I.P Marina (sic) and Family”.
