PETALING JAYA:
A Selangor Exco member has praised Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) enforcement officer Nurul Ain Isa for keeping her cool and her commitment in carrying out her duties despite the challenges she was faced with.

Nurul Ain was the subject of a viral video where a couple harassed her after she summoned them for a parking offence.

The couple were jailed for two weeks and fined RM3,000 in the magistrate’s court. They are appealing and the court has stayed execution of the sentence.

“This incident is part of the challenges civil servants face,” said Ean Yong Hian Wah, who is in charge of local government, new village development and the legalising of factories in Selangor.

“However. it does not weaken the commitment and spirit of MBSA officers in carrying out their duties.”

In fact, Yong said, it would serve to strengthen the resolve of enforcement officers in doing their job.

He said the state government took a strong stand against anyone who broke the law and advised them not to harass enforcement officers carrying out their duties.

“The council is considering legal action against the couple according to the law,” he said in a statement.

The couple had pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to intimidate a public servant from discharging her duty.

The duo committed the offence at a public parking space in Jalan BRP 6/12, Bukit Rahman Putra, Sungai Buloh on Nov 24.

A two-minute video showing the two individuals harassing the MBSA officer went viral on social media. The woman is seen tugging at the shirt of the officer, refusing to let her go, while the man kept taking a video of her with his handphone, close up to her face.
