The women, family and community development ministry has taken this initiative through a standing order, minister Rohani Abdul Karim said.
This follows the recent incident involving a juvenile who was believed to have been beaten to death by 10 inmates at the Pokok Sena boy’s probation hostel in Kedah.
The other inmates present during the incident were referred to the counselling unit to overcome the trauma faced.
“The welfare assistants and security officers have also increased their rounds to ensure the security of the inmates.
“JKM will also cooperate with police in addressing this issue,” Rohani said in a statement here today.
She said the department was deeply concerned over the welfare of children housed at its institutions, which included aspects such as security, health, hygiene and the dwelling, as stated in its standard operating procedures (SOP).
