PETALING JAYA:
Umno MP Bung Moktar Radin has leapt to the defence of fellow party leader Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, over the latter’s controversial “Kok” remark against DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok.

Bung, who is himself no stranger to controversy, also said Tajuddin did not need to apologise to Kok as his remark referred only to the Seputeh MP’s surname.

“I don’t think this issue needs to be played up because what Tajuddin was referring to was Kok’s surname and nothing else.

“In fact, Tajuddin does not need to give any explanation to the public on the matter because her name is Teresa Kok and the issue of an apology does not arise because Tajuddin had no ill intent.”

Bung was commenting on the chaos which erupted at the Dewan Rakyat today following Tajuddin’s remark, in which he said that Kok was “the only woman with a ‘Kok’ in Seputeh”.

Opposition lawmakers in the house lashed out at Tajuddin, saying the deputy minister’s comment was sexual in nature.

Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee, however, came to Tajuddin’s defence, explaining that the Pasir Salak MP was merely referring to the MP by her surname.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad insisted that Tajuddin meant otherwise and that everyone in the House knew “exactly what he means”.

Another outburst followed with Khalid returning fire and shouting repeatedly at Tajuddin that he was a “Menteri sial”, with Tajuddin shouting back “kurang ajar!”
