PSM secretary-general Sivarajan said 10 policemen in three police cars surrounded Arulcelvan while he was on his way to the PSM office in Brickfields at 7pm.
Police have yet to reveal the reason for the arrest.
“PSM criticises the arrests of Arul and other Bersih activists.
“This is a clear act of intimidation against the people who seek to gather peacefully,” Sivarajan said.
“Even though Bersih’s organisers have fulfilled the requirements of the Peaceful Assembly Act and given sufficient notice, the police continue to use various excuses to crack down on Bersih organisers and participants.”
This follows the other arrests today of DAP’s Ronnie Liu in front of the Bukit Aman police headquarters for incitement to riot and DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke over his speech at the Pakatan Harapan Convention last Saturday.
Police have also arrested Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah and secretariat member Mandeep Singh following a raid at the coalition’s office in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.
