Taiping Fire and Rescue Department chief Hasna Rashid said firemen took the students from Kampung Menteri to school on request by their families.
“A fire engine and an ambulance were mobilised to help transport the students to school at about 7am,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
The water level began to rise since early morning and by 6.30am, the Jalan Matang-Kuala Sepetang road was submerged in water.
Meanwhile, the Perak Disaster Management Secretariat said Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) had to close the substation in Taman Kuala Sepetang after it was submerged in two feet of water.
“Consequently, electricity supply in the area was temporarily cut, affecting some 200 residents,” it said in a statement.
