KUALA LUMPUR:
Foreign Minister Anifah Aman is to lead a Malaysian delegation to the emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Mecca tomorrow.

A Wisma Putra statement today said the meeting would discuss the missile attacks launched by the Houthis of Yemen against Saudi Arabia on Oct 9 and 27.

The meeting will also formally endorse the appointment of Dr Yusuf Ahmed Al-Othaimeen as the new OIC secretary-general after Iyad Ameen Madani resigned from the post on Oct 31 for health reasons.

“Malaysia’s participation in the meeting proves the spirit of togetherness with Saudi Arabia following the missile attacks by the Houthis of Yemen.

“Malaysia hopes that the ongoing conflict in the region will be resolved peacefully,” said the Wisma Putra statement.

It also said Malaysia would provide support to and was prepared to work closely with the new secretary-general in realising the objectives and aspirations of the OIC towards the well-being of Muslims.
