KUALA LUMPUR: Indignation showed on the face of Col Dr R Kunaseegaran when Kevin Morais added two additional charges against him at the Sessions Court in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Savinder Singh Jugindar Singh, 27, told the High Court this at the murder trial today of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais, in which Kunaseegaran is the first accused.

“Dr Kunaseegaran initially faced one charge under Section 168 of the Penal Code (which deals with public servants unlawfully engaging in trade).

“Kevin Morais submitted two more charges against him under the same section making it three charges,” said the 46th prosecution witness.

Savinder, who is now based at the Attorney-General’s chambers in Kedah, said the additional charges against the doctor were submitted on June 22, 2015.

During examination in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin at the trial, which entered its 31st day, he said he saw Dr Kunaseegaran talking with a few Indian men after the proceeding.

Kunaseegaran, said the witness, was usually accompanied by four men each time he arrived at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

However, he told the court, he could only see two of the four men, that is, second accused G Gunasekaran and seventh accused S Ravi Chandaran among the accused in the dock.

To a question from Saiful Edris as to his last contact with Kevin Morais, the witness said he met him on Sept 2, 2015 at the Attorney-General’s chambers in Putrajaya, two days before he was reported missing.

“My last contact with Kevin Morais was on Sept 4 at 12.30am when I received an assignment email from him regarding a case in Johor Bahru.

“He requested me to download the documents attached to the email and bring them on the morning of Sept 4, 2015, but that day Kevin Morais did not arrive at the office and could not be contacted,” he said.

Six men – Gunasekaran, 48, R Dinishwaran, 24, A K Thinesh Kumar, 23, M Vishwanath, 26, Nimalan, and Ravi Chandaran, 45, are facing a charge of killing Morais between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, between Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul and No 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

Kunaseegaran, 53, is accused of abetting the six men in Morais’ murder at the same place, date and time.

The trial before Justice Azman Abdullah continues on Nov 28.
