The charges are expected to be for criminal defamation and improper use of network facilities. It was also reported that Jufazli was also being investigated for sedition.

His lawyer, Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, said the police had obtained an extension on a remand order to hold Jufazli, 26, for three more days from today.

Jufazli was arrested at a shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 9 and was held in remand for two days at the Jinjang lock-up, before being sent back to Sabah.

“He is currently being held at the Tawau police station and he told me that he does not have a lawyer to represent him in Sabah,” Wan Anwar told FMT.

Jufazli, whose parents are Umno members, is the founder of Gerakan Anak Muda Selamatkan Sabah, a group which in the past has spoken out about corruption cases involving Sabah leaders.

Wan Anwar, deputy chairman of Parti Amanah’s legal bureau, said two days ago that Jufazli’s arrest was politically motivated.
