
Pua said while his party supported the idea of one-to-one contests, there would be no point if the DAP was to be stabbed in the back by those who “would be tempted by offers made by Umno or Barisan Nasional.”
“How do we trust such a party, they want their butter on both sides and use their partners to attain their own selfish interest,” he said, without clearly naming any party.
Pakatan Harapan, comprising DAP, PKR, and Parti Amanah Negara, has been urged to bring PAS into an electoral alliance for a united front against Barisan Nasional.
“If an agreement cannot be achieved, then it should be made known early so we can get ready and strengthen ourselves in order to face elections, whether it will be a one-to-one fight or a three-cornered fight,” he said in his opening address at Selangor DAP’s annual conference.
Seat negotiations should not be extended up to the last minute as it could affect the performance of the opposition coalition, he said.
“We cannot wait forever … our little brother, Parti Amanah Negara, just celebrated their first anniversary, preparations will be affected and have an impact on us all. The stronger Amanah is, the stronger Pakatan Harapan will be. The stronger Amanah is, the weaker our enemies will become,” he added.
Pakatan Harapan parties, at their first convention yesterday, had agreed on ensuring straight fights against Barisan Nasional.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has declared that it will formally join Pakatan Harapan once some issues, including PAS’ inclusion in the Opposition front, have been ironed out.
