The deputy Inspector-General of Police, Noor Rashid Ibrahim, was quoted as saying that Bersih organisers had not informed the police of some of its previous gatherings and thus had gone against the Peaceful Assembly Act.
“We have been informed that several locations of the Bersih 5 convoys today are done without notifying the police. For today’s convoys, some have informed and some are being organised without serving us the notice. For those that are against the law, we will take stern action,” he said, according to Mingguan Malaysia.
Police had already called in several people for questioning.
Last week, the Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar, said Bersih’s steering committee had yet to fulfil preconditions set by the authorities for its planned Bersih 5 street rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
However Bersih leaders have said a 10-day notice had been hand delivered to federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
Bersih plans to hold a street demonstration at Dataran Merdeka on Nov 19 in its campaign for political reforms and to press for the resignation of the prime minister, Najib Razak.
