Videos circulating on social media show the rain waters pouring through the ceiling, and captures the moment when a large portion of the ceiling collapses in the main floor of the facility, which is the biggest of five government clinics in the greater Taiping township in Perak.
According to postings on social media, it had been raining heavily for almost two hours when the first signs of the ceiling leakage appeared.
The clinic was then closed as more ceiling tiles collapsed due to the weight of the water.
The KK Taiping building was opened in 2007, when the outpatient services from Hospital Taiping was moved out to cater to the growing number of people requiring outpatient treatment, leaving the hospital to cater to more urgent trauma cases.
According to Health Ministry statistics, KK Taiping is among the busiest government clinics in the country with around 1,000 patients being attended to on a daily basis.
Patients at the clinic have been redirected to the Taiping Hospital and other government clinics, including those in Pokok Assam, Simpang and Kamunting. Medical staff from KK Taiping have also been reassigned to different clinics.
