17 Uzbekistan women rescued from sex slavery

Without divulging the age of the 17 victims, IGP Khalid Abu Bakar confirms incident via a tweet, praising his anti-human trafficking team.

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained a woman, suspected to be a pimp, and rescued 17 Uzbekistan citizens from sex slavery in Bukit Ceylon here yesterday.

Without divulging the age of the 17 victims, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the incident in his official Twitter account.

He also commended the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Unit of the D7 Bukit Aman CID on their success.

“Congratulations to the ATIPSOM JSJ D7 PDRM@sia Syabas Unit for successfully nabbing a pimp in Bukit Ceylon, KL and rescuing 17 Uzbekistan women. #GoPDRMGo,” he said in his Twitter account.

Meanwhile in another development last week, the police Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG) detained 410 people allegedly involved in gambling activities nationwide, and seized 2,611 computers in relation to the activities.

Following the raid, 259 masseurs and guest relations officers were nabbed by STAGG in a nationwide operation against vice activities.

Khalid also congratulated the Bukit Aman STAGG team for curbing gambling and vice.
