Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that they were fed up with having to constantly deal with the water crisis in Selangor.
“The people here have been depending solely on Selangor for its water supply and we have no authority to do anything during any water crisis.
“Even Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali had acknowledged that Selangor will soon be facing a water shortage from next year to 2019 due to the delay in the Langat 2 Water Teatment plant,” he said after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Water Storage Controlling System project today.
Tengku Adnan, more popularly known as Ku Nan, said the ministry had already sent a proposal on the FT Water Department to the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (KeTTHA).
“KeTTHA will be submitting our proposal to the Cabinet in March next year and we hope to get the approval for the FT Water Department,” he said.
Speaking on the Water Storage Controlling System project, Ku Nan said approval was still pending from KeTTHA for the project to go ahead, with ASI Air Simpanan Sdn Bhd as the contractor.
“We had been working with ASI to discuss a solution to deal with the water shortage in the city and they came up with the Water Storage Controlling System.
“If we get the approval from KeTTHA, then we will sign a 25-year contract with the company,” he said.
ASI Managing Director Wan Abd Halim Abd Majid said their company would fully fund the project and would own and sell the raw water to industries and the government.
“ASI is to hand over the system to the government after the completion of the contract,” he said.
