“The safety of all our passengers are of great importance to us and we do not take anything that can potentially jeopardise their safety and their ride experience lightly.
“Specifically for GrabHitch passengers, they can also have the option of selecting same gender drivers,” Grab Malaysia Country Head Jaygan Fu said in a statement today.
Jaygan added that the Grab has removed the offending driver from its platform, in response to the passenger’s complaints on Twitter.
“We would like to encourage our passengers to exercise their right to safe transport and reach out to us should they come across any situation so we can intervene and take the necessary action,” Jaygan said, adding that the driver had just signed on to the GrabHitch platform for just one week before the incident.
Grab also confirmed that the driver was not a Grab driver for any other service under the company prior to this.
Grab said in a tweet this afternoon that it has contacted the passenger for further investigation.
The passenger had contacted Grab immediately and was advised to lodge a police report.
She used the GrabHitch service to go to Sunway Pyramid on Saturday, and had then noticed that the driver had exposed himself just as they were entering a highway.
“He kept whistling at me like catcall style and I was just on my phone pretending like I didn’t hear him and like I didn’t see that thing,” she had messaged via Twitter.
“He kept asking me really personal stuff and at this point I just shrugged and pretended like nothing was happening. I was so ready to stab him.”
GrabHitch is Grab’s newest service, and is a car-pooling option for people who are travelling in the same direction, or to a common destination, and also allows for long distance and inter-state travel.
