Lim, the party secretary-general, told delegates to the annual Penang DAP convention this morning that they ought to support Chow if “BN succeeds in their attacks” to kill his political career.
Lim has been charged on two counts of corruption involving his purchase of a RM2.8 million bungalow in George Town and a related transaction for land conversion.
He has often described the corruption charges as being politically motivated and a calculated move by BN to kill his political career.
“If the BN succeeds in their dirty ploy to unseat me, I hereby endorse state chairman Chow to take over. You can tundukkan (defeat) Lim Guan Eng but you cannot tundukkan DAP, and Chow is ready to take over my place,” he said.
“So, I ask the convention, our members, and leaders to endorse my proposal that Chow becomes CM if BN is successful in their dirty plans, what say you?” Lim told the 300 delegates attending the convention, who all gave a round of applause in support.
Lim was reported as saying in July that Chow would be “naturally” his choice.
Chow is executive councillor for local government and a two-term state assemblyman for Padang Kota.
On June 30, Lim was charged at the High Court with using his public office or position to obtain gratification for himself and his wife, Betty Chew, by approving an application by Magnificent Emblem Sdn Bhd to convert agricultural land for residential purposes during a state exco meeting on July 18, 2014.
Lim was also alleged to have used his position to obtain gratification by purchasing a bungalow from businesswoman Phang Li Koon at RM2.8 million, which was below the property’s market value of RM4.7 million on July 28, 2015.
Lim and Phang have pleaded not guilty.
