The state DAP leader, Chong Chieng Jen, said Adenan’s “blind loyalty” to prime minister Najib Razak and the Umno-led BN Federal Government had allowed those policies to be carried out.
Last week, Adenan had said the education policy implemented 30 years ago had been “stupid” in neglecting the English language and over-emphasising Bahasa Malaysia and the Federal Government should have given priority to both languages.
He had also criticised federal plans to close two teacher training colleges and convert them into technical institutes for vocational education.
“Yet, such so-called ‘stupid’ policy continues right under the nose of Adenan in Sarawak,” said Chong today in a statement.
As an elected leader it was not sufficient for Adenan to merely criticise federal policies but he has a duty to stop them being implemented in Sarawak, Chong said.
Adenan’s inability to act left him no better than opposition politicians, and he should withdraw from the ruling coalition. Without the 25 Barisan Nasional MPs from Sarawak, Umno would be left in the minority in Parliament and could not form the Federal Government, Chong said.
