M Kulasegaran, MP for Ipoh Barat, said he and Bercham State assemblyman Ching Chi Khing were giving a speech in an Ipoh food court when two policemen walked in.
“They told us to stop giving speeches, otherwise they would snatch away our microphones if we continued talking. I was shocked. Why can’t we speak to our own constituents?” he said.
“We really did not expect this at all.
“There were about 150 patrons at the food court. It was a peaceful talk. Everyone was enjoying their food and listening to us,” he said.
Kulasegaran said he then went around from table to table to greet patrons and answer any questions they had on the Bersih 5 rally.
Kulasegaran said it was the first time Ipoh police had stopped a public talk about Bersih 5, organised by the Bersih 2.0 electoral reform group to press for political reforms and demand the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
The talk was also a prelude to another event at the Yit Fong Shopping Centre tonight.
