The Director-General of Occupational Safety and Health, Mohtar Musri, said the incident might have been caused when the machine’s steel wheels came off its metal socket.
The Department of Occupational Safety and Health issued a stop-work order yesterday after the accident, which took place at a construction project in Bandar Baru Bukit Raja, Klang.
“We are still investigating whether the crane driver and subcontractor had complied to all the procedures and regulations set at the construction site,” he said.
Subsequent action would depend on the outcome of the investigation, he said after attending a dinner and Industry Appreciation Night organised by the Construction Industry Development Board.
Works Minister Fadillah Yusof, the guest-of-honour, said all construction sites should comply with the regulation set and focus on safety aspects every time, adding that all relevant agencies need to join forces in ensuring its success.
