Former EC chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, who is also a member of Malay rights group Perkasa, was today named as the party’s vice-president.
Meanwhile, former New Straits Times group editor-in-chief Kadir Jasin and Muhyiddin’s brother Abd Aziz Yassin are now members of the party’s Supreme Council.
Rashid had in 2013 stirred controversy when he was quoted as saying that the three redelineation exercises during his term at the EC were carried out in a way to ensure the continued political dominance of the Malays.
Other vice-presidents elected include sacked Gopeng Umno Wanita chief Hamidah Osman and lawyer Abdul Rashid Asari.
Former Langkawi Umno member Anina Saadudin was appointed to lead the party’s women’s wing, Srikandi, while activist Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman leads PPBM’s youth wing, called Armada.
Tariq Ismail, the grandson of former deputy prime minister Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, was also appointed a Supreme Council member. He had announced his decision to join PPBM in September.
