KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities should freeze the assets of those alleged to have received funding from Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros, Red Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos urged today.

Having lodged a report against the three local agencies named in the document leaked by whistleblower site DCLeaks last weekend, Jamal accused Bersih, Malaysiakini and Merdeka Center of committing a new form of terrorism.

“In Syria, the terrorists fight using firearms.

“Here, they are using the funds provided by foreign powers to carry out a new form of terrorism to topple a government that has been strong since independence day.

“Everyone knows Soros is a rascal (‘penyangak’) who has killed many because of his greed. Now, he has funded Bersih and others through his Open Society Foundations (OSF), to have them topple the government.

“So, we urge the police and other agencies to freeze their accounts and assets so they won’t be used for this purpose,” he told reporters at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here today.

Jamal this afternoon also revealed that he had been summoned for questioning by Bukit Aman federal police, saying it was for investigations related to reports lodged by electoral watchdog Bersih.

However, he questioned the probe, accusing the police of practising double standards as the countless reports he had lodged since last year appeared to have been ignored.

“The police called me and said if I did not come on my own, they would arrest me.

“So, I’m meeting them after this,” said Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief.

“When Bersih made a report, the police proceeded to act against me. But when I lodge a report against Bersih … nothing. This is double standards.”

He then predicted the outcome of today’s meeting and said he hoped if the police decided to arrest him again, they would at least avoid using handcuffs on him.

When asked for details of his planned rally this Nov 5, Jamal said that as Kuala Lumpur Mayor Md Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz had barred Dataran Merdeka for his Red Shirts supporters as well as Bersih 5, the rally would instead be held in front of Malaysiakini’s office in Petaling Jaya.

“(Besides Dataran Merdeka) we had also requested for permission to hold the rally at Sultan Sulaiman Club in Selangor.

“But the initial permission was revoked by the club’s management, which was acting under the directive of Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“So the new venue is in front of Malaysiakini’s office, as they too were funded by Soros.”

The DCLeaks document, supposedly from the minutes of a June 22, 2015 meeting on Soros-owned OSF’s Malaysia Programme, alleged that its founder has a “personal interest” in the Malaysian elections.

Those named as attending the meeting were Malaysia Programme assistant head Mary Agnes James, OSF President Christopher Stone and Merdeka Center Executive Director Ibrahim Suffian.
