PETALING JAYA: National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) president Kamarozaman Abd Razak today blamed students for some of the sexual harassment cases involving teachers.

Speaking to FMT, Kamarozaman said that in some instances, teachers, especially the men, were sexually harassed by the female students in Forms 4 and 5.

If these male teachers are not wary, he warned, they could find themselves in hot soup.

“The trouble starts when teachers and students fall in love.

“And these are things that we are taught about at the university or teaching institutes.

“As an educator, a teacher must be sincere and should treat their students like their kids.”

Kamarozaman was asked to comment on the revelation in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that there were 15 cases of teachers molesting students between 2010 and 2016.

Teachers, he stressed, must remain professional in such situations as it “involves emotions and feelings”.

He also dismissed DAP lawmaker Teo Nie Ching’s claim that no teachers were charged for molesting students despite the 15 reports lodged.

“There were instances when some teachers were sacked after they were found guilty.”
