JOHOR BAHRU:
The condition of two nurses and a trainee physiotherapist of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), who were injured in a blaze at its intensive care unit (ICU) last Tuesday, has improved.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ayub Rahmat said the trio were no longer dependent on a ventilator and the nurses no longer required oxygen aid.

Only the trainee physiotherapist was currently receiving normal oxygen treatment, he said in a statement here today.

Ayub said the three victims, Nursuhaily Saliman @ Suleiman, 23; Nurul Ain Zulkurnain, 24; and Siti Nurshafika Mohd Amsah, 21; were still warded at the Burn Care Unit for observation.

The blaze at the ICU claimed the lives of six critically ill patients.

Ayub said however that S Supammah, 67, an ICU patient who was rescued in the tragedy, was receiving treatment at the Burn Care Unit as her condition was still critical.

“She is still on a respirator but in stable condition and being monitored by experts,” he said, adding that patients admitted to HSA for elective surgery were allowed to return home.

He also said most emergency cases would now be referred to and handled by Kulai Hospital.

Residents of the neighbourhood who were in need of non-emergency care have been advised to go instead to the Saleng 1Malaysia Clinic in Bandar Putra or the Kulai Besar Health Clinic.
