PETALING JAYA:
Anti crime activist Sanjeevan Ramakrishnan has accused the police of failing to take action against an illegal gambling den and called for police protection because of death threats made after he tipped off the police.

Sanjeevan, who is chairman of the Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force organisation, said he had gone with a police party to raid a shop in Taman Satellite, Bahau, in Negeri Sembilan on Wednesday.

“I had informed the police, of a shoplot producing and storing fire crackers. But upon the arrival of the Bahau police chief together with several policemen and me, we saw it was actually an illegal gambling den,” he told FMT.

“Despite raiding the place, which had five gambling machines, the shop is still operating today.”

Bahau police chief Asri Yunus, contacted by FMT, declined to comment on the matter.

Sanjeevan said several gangsters had surrounded his car during the police raid. “They came to my driver’s side and threatened to injure, kill and burn my body,” he said.

He said he told his driver to lodge a report at Bahau police station “but one of the gangsters went into the police station area and threatened me. The man also snapped pictures of my car and me”.
