“It is a matter of integrity. The retirees and disabled don’t need to pay medical fees. Please give us the complaint letter for investigation,” she told Tan Kok Wai (DAP-Cheras) during the oral question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Tan had raised the case in which a retiree had received a letter from a collection agency appointed by a teaching hospital.
“In the letter, the agency threatened a legal suit, blacklisting by Bank Negara and imposing restrictions on travelling abroad by the Immigration Department.
“Is the government facing financial difficulties that they are threatening patients for payments?” asked Tan.
He read out the letter from the collection agency but was disrupted by other lawmakers from the backbench.
Yap however said teaching hospitals were performing very well in spite of facing financial constraints and assured Tan that the ministry would look into the matter.
