KUALA LUMPUR:
A group of concerned citizens is offering a RM10,000 reward to anyone who can assist in the arrests of those responsible for the Islamic State-styled death threats on several local activists.

DAP’s Segambut Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng said the group had approached the party with the offer.

“They offered a cash reward of RM10,000 to either the police or any individual who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of those behind the death threats,” said Lim in a press conference at the Parliament lobby here today.

Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah along with Human Rights Society chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and Bersih 2.0 secretariat member Mandeep Singh yesterday lodged police reports claiming to have received death threats via WhatsApp, allegedly signed off by the IS Malaysia terror cell.

The death threats were issued in the form of photo-shopped images of a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava holding Maria, Ambiga and Mandeep at knifepoint.

Chin had said the threatening message sent to her also included images of her three sons’ MyKads.

The persons behind the threats warned her not to go ahead with the scheduled Nov 19 Bersih 5 rally, and threatened to “slaughter” and “behead” Chin. The senders also called her members “anjing” (dogs).

The rally is pushing for institutional reforms in the country and for Najib Razak to step down as Prime Minister.

DAP’s Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun who was also present today, urged police, especially IGP Khalid Abu Bakar, to bring those responsible to justice.

“This is so the public’s confidence in the police can be restored.”

Anyone with information can contact DAP lawmakers Lim, Fong, Thomas Soo and Alice Lau.
