PETALING JAYA:
Suspicion among the Malays that the Chinese-led DAP will dominate the opposition has been neutralised with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad heading Malay-based Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), Salor assemblyman Husam Musa said.

“Dr Mahathir has filled the vacuum of Malay leadership (in the opposition),” said Husam at a ceramah in Shah Alam last night to commemorate the first anniversary of Parti Amanah Negara.

A video of last night’s event was uploaded to the Kelab Che Det Facebook page.

Also present yesterday were Mahathir, who is PPBM chairman, PKR deputy president and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

Husam, a former PAS vice-president and now Kelantan Amanah adviser, said the Malays in urban and rural areas need not be frightened as there is a strong Malay presence in the leadership with PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, vice-president Mukhriz Mahathir and (Parti Warisan Sabah president) Shafie Apdal.

Husam said the nation was at a crossroads due to a serious leadership crisis.

“Corruption is rampant, the nation’s wealth is being plundered and racial and religious politics are evident,” he said.

In an apparent reference to PAS, Husam said the Islamist party was still indecisive while the opposition pact could not wait any longer.

“We move on first as time is not with us,” he said.

Pakatan Rakyat which consisted of DAP, PKR and PAS collapsed last year following irreconcilable differences between DAP and PAS over the implementation of hudud.
