Penang Civil Defence Department Director Lt Col Pang Ah Lek said the high tide could reach 3m high and seafarers had been told to stay clear for the time being.
The areas in Penang island expected to be hit are Teluk Bahang, Teluk Kumbar and Balik Pulau on Penang island.
Areas on the mainland include Pantai Bersih, Teluk Air Tawar (in Butterworth), Pulau Aman and Sungai Udang (in Nibong Tebal).
Pang added with heavy rain forecast for the state, the situation may worsen.
He expects flash floods in these areas as high tides might cause a back flow of water.
“We are prepared to face any situation. We have the strength in numbers.
“Relief centres are also being prepared for those moved out from their villages,” he told reporters here at the Southwest District Civil Defence Centre, Jalan Datuk Ismail Hashim, here, today.
Pang added that 114 relief centres had been put on standby, while 18 heavy duty trucks and 24 boats had been stationed at high-risk areas.
Those requiring assistance can call the Civil Defence at 04-228-9012 or 04-2263876.
