Deputy Pahang Police Chief Azri Ahmad confirmed the incident happened at 3.30pm yesterday before the corporal was about to start his duty for the day at 4pm.
“He fired shots into the air but no injuries were reported.
“After the incident, he left his weapon behind before fleeing to Jerantut to calm down.
“However, he surrendered himself at noon and was then taken to Temerloh for investigation,” he told Bernama when contacted here tonight.
Azri said the investigation was being conducted under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960 for firing shots in a public area.
He added that the corporal, who was transferred to Kuala Krau police station last year, had been placed under police surveillance. He joined the force in 2005.
It is understood that before the incident, he was informed that his name had been on a transfer list.
He also allegedly smashed the windscreen of a car belonging to his superior.
