According to a Berita Harian report, the parents of Mohd Fitri Azman, 17, and Mohd Farid Irwan, 14, were injured in a motorcycle accident three months ago.
To help care for their parents Azman Yaakob, 47, and Juliana Khazali, 42, who require round-the-clock care, the boys devised a way for one of them to go to school while the other stayed home to watch over them.
Apart from regularly cleaning their parent’s wounds to prevent infection, Fitri and Farid also handle the household chores.
Fitri, who will be sitting for his SPM this year, said he had no choice but to skip classes and play the role of the head of the family.
The young lad explained that besides Farid, he had another two siblings, Fahrin, 11, and Fawwad, 7, who were still in primary school.
He said although life had been tough for the family since the accident, they were still considered fortunate as their grandmother helped prepare meals for them.
“Even though I do not go to school, I still do my revisions for the sake of my future. My brother and I do not want our younger siblings’ studies to be disrupted,” said Fitri.
The family was recently visited by Fahrin and Fawwad’s headmaster as well as the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) chairman, and a special officer of the Baling MP, who handed over aid to the family.
