PETALING JAYA: Age is not a barrier for Nik Mohd Nasrul Nik Rashid, when it comes to pursuing academic credentials.

The 31-year-old father of four sat for his Form 3 PT3 examination yesterday as a private candidate, Utusan Malaysia reported today.

The father of four told the daily that he had no qualms about sitting for the exam with a bunch of 15-year-olds at SMK Long Gafar in Kota Baru, Kelantan.

Nik Mohd Nasrul currently works as a driver at a government department, but he is employed on a contract basis as he lacks the minimum qualification.

“I submitted my PMR certificate to get this job but I did not have a credit in BM.

“Later, my bosses said if I could sit for PT3 and get a credit for my BM, then I could secure permanent employment.

“Although I faced time constraints to study after working hours, I’m confident of getting a credit for my BM,” he was quoted as saying by the local Bahasa Malaysia daily.

In 2014, the PT3 replaced the previous Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination for students in Form 3. The new exam was part of the Education Ministry’s improvements to the school based assessment system (PBS).

Nik Mohd Nasrul is not the first local adult reported to live up to the adage “Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave”.

Last year, it was reported that 60-year-old Chong Sing sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) for the sixth time.

The private sector retiree had said he was bent on proving wrong those who had ridiculed his lack of education.
