PETALING JAYA:
Lawyer-activist Siti Kasim had her statement taken by police for showing the middle finger at hecklers during a forum on PAS’ bill to enhance the powers of the shariah courts last month.

Star Online reported she entered the Shah Alam district headquarters with four lawyers about 8.30pm.

“The police were very, very nice. I love the police, they were so nice to me.

“They were very cooperative and very helpful as well.

“I really appreciate the police being professional with us,” the portal quoted her as saying when she came out at 10pm.

She is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for outraging the modesty of a person.

“To me, it is an appropriate reaction at that time. It was out of frustration.

“It was a spontaneous reaction of my frustration with their heckling.”

It was earlier reported that Siti showed the middle finger after those in the audience harassed her for speaking out against the Private Member’s Bill tabled in Parliament at a forum on Sept 5 entitled “Pindaan Akta 355: Antara Realiti Dan Persepsi” (“Bill 355 Amendment: Between Reality and Perception”).
