PETALING JAYA:
All eyes will be turned on hill-clearing when the Penang Forum coalition of resident groups launches a Penang Hills Watch initiative this month.

Penang Forum representative Rexy Prakash Chacko said information on hill-clearing would be collated so that Penang Forum could work with the authorities to safeguard the state’s natural heritage.

Chacko said those who could provide information would include hikers who frequent places not easily reached by vehicles, and residents affected by hill clearing.

“It is hoped that this information will benefit the state apparatus in monitoring remote and unchecked areas where hill clearing might happen,” he was quoted as saying.

He said there had been a flood of complaints from citizens through social media and personal contact about rampant hill-clearing.

The information collated by Penang Hills Watch would be made available to the public, he said.

Penang Hills Watch would be launched at the end of the month.
