Assemblyman also offers RM500 for photos or video of anyone polluting Sungai Semantan

PETALING JAYA:
A state assemblyman is offering a RM10,000 reward for information about the contamination of Sungai Semantan, which left 430,000 households without water after the temporary closure of a water treatment plant.

Eddie Ng, the assemblyman for Balakong, said he would also give RM500 to the first person with photographs or video evidence of anyone polluting the river, according to Star Online.

The money will come from his constituency allocation.

“I am very unhappy with the water disruptions in Selangor due to river pollution and stern action must be taken against those responsible,” he was quoted as saying.

The treatment plants at Sungai Langat and Cheras were shut down on Friday night because of “odour pollution” from an outlet portal of raw water from the Sungai Semantan in Pahang.

The closures will cause disruption of water supplies to parts of Kuala Lumpur, Petaling and Hulu Langat.
