In a letter of demand (LoD) sent to Jamal today through a legal firm, Chin also wanted an undertaking that he would not publish any more defamatory statements.

The LoD also called on Jamal to pay damages for the injury done to Chin’s good name and reputation.

“Take notice that if we do not receive your compliance within 48 hours, we have our client’s instruction to take legal action without further reference to you,” read the LoD sent by lawyer Melissa Sasidaran.

Chin said the statements were completely false, malicious and defamatory, and calculated to injure her reputation.

It further said that the statement was a further attempt to mislead the public on a matter of national interest.

On Sept 28, Jamal, who is also a Umno division leader, claimed he received the information from “reliable” sources.

“I cannot reveal the source but we will hand over the report to the police,” he said, referring to the bit of information he had.

Jamal also claimed that Bersih 2.0 had planned to “take over” several strategic locations (during the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19), such as airports, like what happened during protests in Thailand.

“Our sources also indicate that Bersih’s motive is to topple the government by going to strategic places.

“We believe that they (Bersih 2.0) have acquired consultants from Thailand and Taiwan to ensure that Bersih 5 will successfully topple the government before the next general election.”

Bersih 2.0 last week started its convoy simultaneously in Kota Bharu, Lumut, Arau, Johor Bahru, Sandakan and Miri in the run-up to its gathering in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 19.

When contacted, Jamal “thanked” Chin for giving him 48 hours to issue an apology over his claim, claiming that the latter has “finally realised” that there were laws in the country which must be adhered to.

“Prior to this, her actions made it seem as if our nation was lawless.”

Jamal previously claimed that Chin had failed to obey the law when she insisted on taking to the streets.
