Opposition being immature about funding, says Tee Yong

They should not see the initiative merely in terms of identifying the contributors, says MCA vice-president

KOTA BHARU:
Opposition politicians are only ‘playing politics’ over proposals, including a new law, to improve integrity in political funding.

MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong said he found the opposition’s reaction to be immature given that opposition parties were administering Kelantan, Penang and Selangor.

“Penang and Selangor are developed states, so the opposition should not see the initiative merely to identify the contributors but it is a matter we must study deeply to ensure national politics continue to progress and be healthy,” he said.

The National Consultative Committee On Political Funding has drawn up 32 proposals including the proposed Political Contributions and Expenditures Act.

Several opposition leaders were reported to be not receptive to the proposals forwarded by the committee to political parties.
