GEORGE TOWN: A convoy of motorcycle rides in Red Shirts rode across the Penang Bridge and through the city today, gathering at Gurney Drive in what they called a ‘ride against corruption’.

They had earlier made their way across the Penang Bridge since noon and along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, with a witness saying they blocked the lanes by riding side by side.

The group called for the resignation of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng whose corruption trial will be held in December.

Traffic along Gurney Drive and Jalan Kelawei was reportedly heavy as a result of the convoy.

Penang Umno Youth chief Rafizal Abd Rahim addressed the group at Gurney Drive using a loud hailer, stating that among the reasons they were gathered was also to urge the police not to issue a permit for the Bersih 5 rally.

“We urge the police, the authorities to not issue Bersih a permit for the November rally,” Rafizal said, adding that they would challenge Bersih if the rally proceeded.
