KANGAR:
The two Perlis natives who won gold at the Rio Paralympics will each receive a double-storey terrace house and cash.

Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man said the awards were in recognition of their significant contribution.

Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi won a gold medal in the 100m T36 (cerebral palsy) and Abdul Latif Romly, also the gold in the long jump T20 (learning difficulties) event.

“The state government has decided to award each of them at least a two-storey terrace house, the location of which will be identified in the near future.

“But the area must be in Perlis,” he said during the official welcoming ceremony for the two athletes at Dataran Datuk Sheikh Ahmad here today.

Besides that, he said, the two athletes would also be given a cash incentive by an investment company in the state but the amount had not been set yet.

As for the duo’s first coaches, Azlan said the state government would also consider an appropriate reward.

At Dataran Datuk Sheikh, more than 500 people excitedly welcomed the arrival of Mohamad Ridzuan and Abdul Latif and took the opportunity to take photos with the two athletes.

Earlier, Mohamad Ridzuan and Abdul Latif were taken on a special bus, accompanied by a high-powered motorcycle convoy, from the Ulu Pauh arch leading to C-Mart supermarket, Arau, before arriving at Dataran Datuk Sheikh Ahmad at 4.50pm.
