PETALING JAYA:
A man sustained serious injuries after the car he was driving skidded and plunged into a 10 metre- deep pit at a construction site near the Kampung Pandan roundabout here last night.

According to news reports, the 55-year-old driver, Chandran Sekaran K Mohan, sustained serious injuries and was trapped in his seat after his Kia Spectra plunged into the hole, part of a tunnel construction project in the area, about 10.30pm.

Following distress calls, 15 firemen in four fire engines from the Pudu fire station rushed to the scene, after which Chandran was winched to safety and sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for treatment.

According to a Bernama report, the victim apparently lost control of his car before it skidded and crashed into a road divider and plunged into the hole.

A similar incident happened on May 3 in Section 17, here, when 86-year-old former school headmaster Yong Chee Seng drove his car into a 12m sewerage pit that was under construction.

Yong and his Filipino maid, who was with him during the incident, were admitted to the hospital with injuries but discharged just days later.

Yong however, died two weeks after the incident, while recuperating from his injuries.
