Skipper drowns as boat sinks near Port Klang jetty

A passenger has been reported missing while two others were rescued in the incident.

The skipper of a boat drowned, a passenger was reported missing and two others were rescued when a boat sank near the Port Klang Jetty near here yesterday evening.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Deputy Director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said the incident took place at 6.30pm.

He said the body of the skipper, Tan Bun Hiang, a local, was found near the scene of the incident at 8pm.

“An Indian national, identified as Zorawar Singh, is missing. The search for him is ongoing. The survivors were Swapnil Sunil Padgelwar and Nirmalpal Singh, both Indian nationals,” he said in a statement here, tonight.

He said the victims were between 20 and 47 years old.

Mohd Sani said the three passengers were the crew of the ship MV Linau 6 which is anchored near the jetty.

Mohd Sani said Tan’s body had been sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for a post-mortem.
