KEPALA BATAS:
The education ministry is reviewing the workload of teachers, especially in carrying out clerical duties and online data entry.

Its minister, Mahdzir Khalid, said a Coordinating Meeting on the Online Data Entry System would be held on Thursday in Putrajaya to discuss the matter.

The meeting will also examine if there was a need to send such data up to the ministry level, he said.

“Teachers, under the Education Service Circular, already have core responsibilities, including sports, extracurricular and academic activities, as well as overseeing students’ welfare, besides teaching in the classroom.”

He told reporters this after the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Al-Irshad excellent awards presentation here today.

On a separate matter, Mahdzir said the ministry did not intend to add any new aspect in the existing history textbook syllabus by incorporating information about the Sungai Batu civilisation as part of the history subject learning modules.

Sungai Batu is located 10km from Sungai Petani, Kedah.

It became the world’s focus following its discovery as the oldest and earliest civilisation in Southeast Asia.
