PETALING JAYA: A survey conducted by global nutrition company Herbalife has found that 90 per cent of Malaysian women spend more than six hours a day at their desks, compared to men who polled slightly lower at 80 per cent.

It also revealed that 52 per cent of women had their lunch at their work desks at least twice a week, as compared to only 45 per cent of men.

Additionally, it also noted that 57 per cent of women said it was harder to stay active while at work compared to 50 per cent of men.

Sridhar Rajagopalan, sub-regional general manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, said Herbalife was trying to help people in Malaysia take practical steps towards leading healthier lives.

“This survey indicates that Malaysian workers tend to neglect exercise due to their commitment to work.

“As a global nutrition company, we hope to help people in the country take practical steps towards leading healthy, active lives, and help reduce obesity risks and result in positive improvements to their overall well-being over time,” Sridhar said in a statement today.

Early this year, Malaysia recorded an increase in its obesity rate, with the latest statistics showing that the overweight and the obese make up nearly half of the country’s 30 million populace.

The numbers were revealed by Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam, who said according to the National Health and Morbidity Survey of 2015, obese Malaysians made up 17.7 per cent of the population while those categorised as overweight, made up 30 per cent, a 47.7 per cent in total.
