PETALING JAYA: A Belgian national who went missing during a hash run in Kuala Kubu Baru in Selangor has been found dead.

The body of Thomas Cools, 34, a participant in the Hash Challenge International Run, was found at the bottom of a hill slope on Bukit Tarik at 9.55am this morning by the authorities.

In a statement, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said the hill slope where Cools’ body was found was near the Kerling Orang Asli village.

Sani said a total of 21 people were involved in the Search and Rescue Operations which began at 8am today, including officers from the Fire and Rescue Department, police and Civil Defence Force.

It is understood that Cools’ body will be sent to the Kuala Kubu Baru hospital.

Cools was feared to have gone missing after failing to turn up at the finish line of the run.

He was among 88 participants who took part in the event, which began at Ladang Rasa at 7am, Saturday and ended at Lembah Beringin at 7.30pm the same day.

The international run involved 68 men and 20 women passing through several “water points” including in Rasa, Kuala Kubu Baru and Kerling.
