PETALING JAYA:
Some bank officials in Sabah are reported to be under investigation for having taken bribes for approving personal loans for their customers.

The personal loan racket is believed to have been going on for some time, according to Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap, the Sabah director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

“We have not established how many loans were issued on this basis and our investigations are still ongoing,” Shaharom was reported to have said on Thursday.

Some details of the racket were uncovered after seven bank officers were arrested earlier in the week for allegedly demanding payment of RM7,000 from a civil servant who applied for a RM50,000 personal loan.
