Adnan Yaakob hints at not contesting in GE14

Pahang MB’s announcement comes in the wake of his sudden stunt in the state assembly yesterday to touch his face with his leg to prove he is hale and hearty.

KOTA BHARU: Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob has hinted that he may not contest in the 14th General Election.

He said that although the decision was not final, it was only logical as had been involved in politics a very long time, Bernama reported.

“I am just voicing my opinion as I have been involved in politics for a long time (30 years) and if I want to retire, it would be just about appropriate.

“In politics, if you want to retire, there need not necessarily be a successor… the successor will come when the time is right.

“What more in Pahang, you must get the consent of the Sultan as well as the support of the prime minister,” he told reporters after officiating the Ketereh Umno division’s delegates meeting here today.

Present was Ketereh Umno head Annuar Musa, who is also Umno information chief.

However, Adnan said his decision was not final and that there was no pressure on him to retire from politics.

“In politics, we ourselves must make our own assessments when to go and not because of pressure. Actually, in politics, even 50 years is really a short time,” he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Pahang state legislative assembly was shocked when Adnan suddenly took off his shoes and lifted his left leg to touch his face.

Adnan also placed a pen between his toes while in this position and demanded whether members in the house could do the same.

Sin Chew Daily said this stunt was apparently to prove that he was healthy.

“I’ve been menteri besar for 18 years and state assemblyman for 30 years.

“My health has been very good, but recently there have been accusations that I’m suffering from poor health,” Adnan told the assemblymen.

Adnan said he was bewildered by such rumours as his body was still in good condition.
