IPOH: A policeman has been detained for allegedly causing hurt to a teacher of SK Bukit Sapi Lenggong on Aug 30 this year.

A video recording on the incident went viral after it was posted on Facebook.

Perak police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the policeman, who is with the Lenggong police station, was arrested today and the police would apply for an order to remand him at the Pangkalan Hulu Magistrate’s Court.

“The investigation paper on the case is being completed and will be handed over to the Perak prosecution director,” he said in a statement.

It is learned that the male teacher, who is also a former Sinar Harian journalist in Kota Bharu, claimed that he suffered a broken left arm after two plainclothes policemen twisted it due to a misunderstanding.

The teacher, who was returning home from giving an extra class to Year Six students, fled on foot when he saw the two men wearing helmets, thinking that they were thugs.

He was later handcuffed and taken to the police station.

The teacher tested negative for drugs.
