PUTRAJAYA:
The assault on the Sri Lankan envoy in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday was an isolated incident and had nothing to do with terrorism, said Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

He said the ministry took “very seriously” the assault of Ibrahim Ansar, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, at the KL International Airport.

“Action was taken against the culprits of the assault,” he told reporters after opening the ministry’s seminar on Security Psychology here today.

Ibrahim, who had sent off Sri Lanka’s Primary Industries Minister Daya Gamage at the KLIA, was assaulted by a group of five people at the airport.

Daya had attended the International Conference of Asian Political Parties.

Following the incident, police arrested five people, aged between 27 and 56, in Selangor, Perak and Kuala Lumpur.
