PETALING JAYA:
If former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his former protégé, Anwar Ibrahim, join forces once more, they will only end up “killing” each other just as they used to.

This is what Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron had to say in relation to today’s meeting between Mahathir and Anwar after 18 years.

Idris told FMT that the meeting went to show just how desperate Mahathir had become.

“Mahathir is a real desperado. Anwar will not forget what Mahathir did to him back in 1998.”

Idris, who is an Umno Supreme Council member said should the two former Umno leaders reunite, old wounds would reopen again soon.

He added that Umno would not have to worry about the two joining forces as they were both irrelevant.

He said even if Mahathir had allowed Anwar to become prime minister 18 years ago, current Prime Minister Najib Razak would still be in the structure, and could have become prime minister.

Meanwhile, former Umno stalwart Sanusi Junid said he was happy Mahathir showed up to support Anwar in his bid to stop the National Security Council Act (NSC) from coming into force.

The former Kedah menteri besar said he knew Anwar even back in 1961, when both were studying at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK).

Sanusi was in Form Five then, while Anwar was only in Form 1. Later on, the duo were involved in building a number of organisations together, such as Badan Revolusi Agama, Maramunjangan, Yayasan Anda, Shamelin Berhad Cooperative and Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM).

He urged all those who were in these organisations to put aside their feelings and sentiments, and together fight the transgressions in the country.

Earlier today, Mahathir made an unscheduled visit to a High Court hearing here on an urgent application by Anwar, to suspend the coming into force of the controversial NSC Act.

The 91-year-old Mahathir arrived about 3pm together with PKR Deputy President Azmin Ali, former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan, Batu MP and PKR Vice-President Tian Chua.
