M’sian actress files representation for charge review

Actress Lydiawati has claimed trial to hitting Brunei trader Sharifah Harnizam Wan Musa with a piece of iron.

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian 80s actress, who is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to another woman, has submitted a representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for her charge to be reviewed.

Lydiawati, or Salina Zaimon, 51, through her counsel, Fatimah Zahrah Ramli, informed the court of the matter when her case came up for mention at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court today.

The lawyer, when met, said magistrate Haslinda A Raof set Oct 13 for mention, pending the decision on the representation. Deputy public prosecutor Norhashimah Hashim represented the prosecution.

On May 16, Lydiawati, who gained popularity through a Malay film, “Suami, Isteri dan…”, claimed trial to hitting Sharifah Harnizam Wan Musa, 43, a Brunei trader, with a piece of iron.

The single mother of two allegedly committed the offence at Safari Two Hotel, Lot 52, Jalan Mamanda 9, Ampang here, at 6.30pm on March 24.

The charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a maximum 10 years’ jail or fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.
