In making this call, state MCA Youth Public Service and Complaints Bureau Chief Ooi Teik Liang said since the bribes-for-homes scandal was exposed, the state government should investigate it and not deny it.
“If the state government wants to express its innocence, it should review its internal administrative loopholes, rather than choosing to do nothing.
“What DAP has to do now is to thoroughly investigate the low-cost housing short-cut racket and determine how many have fallen prey to fake housing agents,” Ooi said in a statement today.
Today, retiree Lim Keat Seong, 68, who is the father of Sungai Pinang assemblywoman Siew Khim, was remanded for seven days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to help probe a racket allegedly collecting payments to jump the queue in the Penang public housing system.
Siew Khim has distanced herself from her father’s activities and even had her statement taken by MACC this morning.
Ooi urged the DAP-led state government to practise what it preached and tell Siew Khim to resign following her father’s alleged involvement.
“The scandal has video as evidence, but DAP leaders still choose to ignore and also to divert attention. They even praised Siew Khim for being brave. What is this?”
Ooi acknowledged Siew Khim’s “active work” in her constituency, but refused to believe that she was not aware of her father’s alleged misdeeds.
“This scandal has raised too many doubts. DAP and Penang Government cannot escape from it.
“As a state assemblywoman, Siew Khim has full responsibility to explain to the voters about this, even take the initiative to step down.
“She must set a good incorruptible example to DAP.”
